Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest food waste producing countries in the world. Emergency handling of organic waste is in interest of all levels of society, especially educational levels. One alternative solution to emergency waste is cultivating black soldier fly (BSF) maggots as a bioconversion that effectively breaks down organic waste. BSF maggot cultivation practices can be integrated with gamification as a Biology learning innovation to introduce bioconversion practices while increasing generation Z’s interest and learning participation. This research aims to explain the effectiveness of implementing gamification-based BSF maggot cultivation practices in Biology learning. The research method uses is quantitative research with a posttest-only design. E-Worksheet is used to measure students’ mastery concepts and questionnaire is used to measure students’ responses regarding the integration of gamification with BSF maggot cultivation pracitces. The results of the research showed that the average students’ mastery of concepts in general was in the very good category (88.54) at the end of the lesson and all students achieved completeness or mastery learning. The integration of BSF maggot cultivation practices with gamification was generally categorized as good (77.77) by students.
